Frequently Asked Questions
What is DLNA?
DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is a technology that lets you stream media content between devices on the same home network. You can stream music, photos, and videos from a WD My Cloud network device to DLNA-enabled TV's, smartphones, and tablets.
How does DLNA work with WD My Cloud?
Your WD My Cloud streams media to DLNA-compatible devices in your home. WD My Cloud includes a component (the DLNA server) that searches for all media stored on the device. The server is pre-set, so you can just transfer your media to the Public share on your WD My Cloud, and you are ready to stream and view content on your home entertainment center, game console, WD TV Live HD media player, DLNA 1.5 digital media adapters, and other PCs on your home network.
What can I do if I do not want certain files available to DLNA?
Place them in a private share that is not configured for media sharing.
What do I do if new media added to my Public share isn't available on my media player?
  1. Launch the WD My Cloud web interface. How do I do that?
  2. Click Settings.
  3. In the left pane, click Media.
  4. For the DLNA Database option, do one of the following:
    • Click Rescan so the DLNA server will look for updated music and picture files on your drive.
    • Click Rebuild so the DLNA server will read all of the music and files on your device. Note: Depending on the amount of data stored on your device, your content might not be immediately available.
Can I stream movies and video files in iTunes?
No. You can only stream supported music files from your WD My Cloud to iTunes.
