WD offers two free apps that let you access your content from anywhere: WD My Cloud and WD Photos. Get the apps from the QR codes.

Action 2: Upload content to your personal cloud
You can skip this task if you already loaded content onto your WD My Cloud.

To get started with your personal cloud, you need to upload content to your drive. How do I do that?

Action 3: Enable your WD My Cloud device for remote access

To enable remote access:

  1. On your computer, launch the WD My Cloud web interface. How do I do that?
  2. Click Settings
  3. In the left pane, click General.
  4. Turn on Remote Access.
Action 4: Set yourself up for remote access
  1. On your computer, launch the WD My Cloud web interface. How do I do that?
  2. Click Cloud Access.
  3. In the left pane, click your user name (default is
    admin
    ).
  4. In the WDMyCloud.com Login For section, click Sign Up.
  5. In the Sign Up for WDMyCloud.com Login dialog box, do these steps:
    • Enter your name.
    • Enter your email address.
    • Click Save.
      WD My Cloud sends an email to the address you provided.
  6. Check the email account you provided in Step 5
  7. Within the email, click the link and follow the instructions to complete the sign-up process.
Action 5: Perform one-time setup for secure access at home or away

With this procedure, which you only need to do once, you'll establish a secure connection between your mobile device and your WD My Cloud.

To get secure access to your WD My Cloud:

  1. To connect your smartphone or tablet with your home network:
    • On your mobile device, tap Settings.
    • Tap Wi-Fi.
    • Select your home network.
    • Enter the network password and tap Join.
  2. Launch the app (either WD My Cloud or WD Photos).
  3. Tap Connect Now.
    The app automatically searches for available devices in your network.
  4. Tap the plus sign (+) for your WD My Cloud.
    If prompted for a password, enter it, and tap OK.
  5. Tap your user name.
    If you set up a password for yourself, you need to enter it.
  6. (Optional) If you want to access any of your files,
    Tap a share and then navigate to your desired content.
Action 6: Access your content anywhere

At this point, accessing your content is easy. From now on, just complete these steps to access your WD My Cloud from your mobile device.

To access your content anywhere:

  1. Ensure that your mobile device has a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connection.
  2. Launch a WD mobile app (WD My Cloud or WD Photos).
  3. If prompted, tap Connect Now.
  4. Select your WD My Cloud device.
  5. Select the share you want to access and then navigate to your desired content.

  1. From your computer, enter the following URL in a browser:
    https://WDMyCloud.com
  2. At the Sign In page, enter your email and password.
  3. Click Sign In.
    The My Devices page displays and lists WD devices you have enabled for remote access.
  4. On the My Devices page, click the dropdown arrow next to the name of your drive, and then select View Shares.
  5. For the desired share, click Open in Explorer.
    Windows Explorer opens. Subfolders display if any exist.
  6. Open, play, or view files in the usual manner.
Remote Mac Computer

  3. Click Sign In.
    The My Devices page displays and lists WD devices you have enabled for remote access.
  4. On the My Devices page, click the dropdown arrow next to the name of your drive, and then select View Shares.
  5. For the desired share, click Open in Finder.
  6. Open, play, or view files in the usual manner.
